Make Mothers Matter Advocates for Women’s Rights and Family-Centered Policies Worldwide

Make Mothers Matter (MMM) continues to advance its mission of promoting the rights and well-being of mothers by engaging in key global discussions on development, gender equality, and care policies.

At the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Sevilla, MMM highlighted how taxation, debt, and trade policies—though often seen as gender-neutral—have profound impacts on women, particularly mothers. The organisation called for fairer, more inclusive financial systems and the recognition of unpaid care work as a vital component of sustainable development.

During the UN High-level Political Forum, MMM hosted a side event titled “Unpaid Care at the Core: A Catalyst for Achieving the SDGs”, underscoring how addressing unpaid care work is essential to advancing multiple Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including gender equality, health, and decent work. MMM urged governments to embed care systems within policy planning and to view care as a collective social responsibility.

MMM also engaged at the 59th UN Human Rights Council, where it emphasised the role of families in promoting gender equality through more equitable sharing of care responsibilities. Further, MMM welcomed new EU initiatives linking gender equality with mental health, work-life balance, and women’s economic empowerment—issues central to mothers’ daily lives.

Through these activities, Make Mothers Matter continues to advocate for systemic change that values and supports the crucial role of mothers and caregivers in building resilient, equitable societies.
